Covid-19 Crisis: Everyone Living in Japan Gets a ¥100,000 Subsidy

Last Thursday, April 16, the Japanese government has announced that they will make a one-time cash payment for all residents of Japan to alleviate the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis. Below are the details that have been announced so far.

Who can get the ¥100,000?

Anyone who has a MyNumber and a registered address in Japan as of April 27, 2020 is eligible to receive the subsidy. All nationalities will be accepted.

How can I get my ¥100,000?

Basically, each household will be receiving an application form by mail. For households with more than one member, all the names of each individual belonging in the family will be pre-printed on the form. After filling out your application, you may send it back via post or if you have a “My number card”, you can choose to submit your application online.

Will it be easy to fill out the form?

The Japanese government said it will be simple and you will just have to attach a copy of your ID and some bank information. As of April 20, they have not released any further details on this yet. I will update this blog as soon as they make another announcement so bookmark this page!

When can I get my ¥100,000?

The earliest possible time that you can get hold of this grant is at the end of May 2020. Also, the arrival of application forms will differ from each city.

When is the deadline of application?

You need to send your form within 3 months after your city starts accepting application forms.
